Mitutoyo Data Collection Options for Surftest
Learn about several convenient options to facilitate data collection using the Mitutoyo Surftest SJ-410 series Surface Roughness Testers. The SJ-410 series roughness testers have the following supplied interfaces: USB, RS-232C, SPC output, and footswitch I/F (refer to the image below).
A memory card for data storage is also supported (see Option 4 below for more details).
Option 1: Wireless Input Via U-WAVE Tools
Use the U-WAVE wireless input tools to remotely load the Surftest 410 calculation results (via SPC output) into commercial spreadsheet software on a PC. For this option, the following parts are required:
- U-WAVE-R, which connects to the PC.
- U-WAVE-T, which connects to the SJ-410 series tester (Choose model 02AZD880G.)
- Connection cable 02AZD790D, which is needed to connect the U-WAVE-T to the SJ-410 series tester.
Refer to the image below for an illustration of this configuration.
Option 2: One-touch Input via USB
There are 2 ways to load Surftest calculation results (SPC output) into commercial spreadsheet software on a PC via USB connection.
- Use the USB Input Tool 06AFM380D to connect the Surftest SJ-410 to the computer.
- Use the USB Input Tool 264-020 and this digimatic connection cable to connect the Surftest SJ-410 to the computer.
Option 3: Transfer Data to Excel Using Optional Free Software
Using the USB interface on the back of the Mitutoyo Surftest SJ-410 series Surface Roughness Tester, you can set up and start measurement via a PC using a Windows OS with Microsoft Excel. This USB cable (12AAD510) is required for the connection. There is a free program available on the Mitutoyo website (https://www2.mitutoyo.co.jp/eng/contact/products/sj/) that enables the creation of inspection record tables using a Microsoft Excel macro.
Option 4: Store Data on a Memory Card
Data can be stored on a memory card and recalled as required, allowing you to measure on-site and later print out or retrieve the data. 2 GB and 8 GB memory cards are available.
